Us future strategy in North-East Asia: Balancing or buck-passing?

Author:
Adrian Eugen Preda

This paper examines two strategies that United States can use in order to block the rise of China as a regional hegemon in North-East Asia. The two strategies are balancing and buck-passing and I argue that the first is better for United States than the second. After these two strategies will be presented follows the demonstration that China is a potential hegemon in North-East Asia and that the other powers in the region ar too weak to oppose, and finally, an explanation of the fact will be provided that why balancing is better for USA in this case than the buck-passing.

Author:
Silviu-George Colonescu

In this study I will discuss the disobedience wave echoed in the civil society debates provoked by the researching and shale gas exploitation activities connected to hydraulic fracking in Pungești, Romania. I will trace the collective decision making methods following the debates from the deliberative public arena. My aim is to analyse this event using the epistemic proceduralism approach proposed by David Estlund as a middle ground theoretical model which blends pure democratic proceduralism, on the one hand, with epistemic considerations, on the other hand.

Democrația deliberativă: schimbarea cadrului politic din România

Author:
Vlad Bujdei-Tebeica

Author:
Dan Sultănescu

The decline in voting participation is not new information: the absolute numbers are decreasing. However, the presence at presidential elections in 2014 leads us to a more careful reflection on the real trends on voting in contemporary Romania. And this is why I wanted to publish these conclusions. The only generalization we can make is that, after 2007, we are witnessing a return to greater values in electoral participation for all types of elections. And this balances the impression of a steady decline in participation, retained both the literature and the common sense.

Author:
Todor Arpad

I investigate some of the most important theoretical approaches to some of the most important economic factor that shaped the economic transformation in the post-communist states, namely the Foreign Direct Investments (FDI). I investigate how, depending on the theoretical framework we employ, the multiple structural effects FDI had on the economies of the transition economies, as well as other parts of the social and political life can be causally interpreted.

Author:
Nicolescu Valentin Quintus

Originated in the works of German historian Frederick Meineke and made popular by the work of Hans Kohn in the second half of the 20th Century, the distinction between civic and ethnic nationalism is undoubtedly dominant within the nations and nationalisms field of study, being used in a vast array of theoretical approaches, from modernism (Ernest Gellner) to ethno-symbolism (Anthony Smith). Nevertheless, its analytical substance and its explicative power are rarely questioned, usually being taken as axiomatic.
