Abstract

One of the characteristics of modern Islamic reformist movements is represented by the emergence of the gender question as a major theme in theoretical discourses and public policies. The disponibility of taking in to consideration the injustice Muslim women were subjected to faded away considerably as the atomized Quranic interpretations and legalist manipulations of the ethical substance of lslamic principles started to spread. Despite the sporadic turbulences it has sparkled, the only feasible and tasting solution for promoting an egalitarian perspective on gender relations in Islamic cultures is the critical deconstruction within the tradition. In this article I will discuss some of the Quranic justifications regarding the legitimacy of the reformist approaches endorsed by women and the relevance of Islamic reform in gender studies.
